Pat Magee’s Surf Shop opened in 1969 in Port Aransas,Texas.

Pat, a two time Texas Gulf Goast Surfing Champion surfed on the prestigious Dewey Weber Surfboards surf team of Southern California.

He had surfboard rental stands on the Port A beach during his Junior and Senior Years in High School.

Rentals were a mainstay of his business especially in 1970 when he ordered 200 Dewey Weber Easy Rider surfboards and they were all delivered at one time to the Corpus Christi airport. Braniff airlines was mad at Pat for a year.

During the 60’s and 70’s Magee, Pat Harral, and John Trice explored and surfed the west coast of Mexico extensively. A 1973 trip to El Salvador piad off with a month of great surf at Zunzal.

Pat first met Robert August of “Endless Summer” fame in San Blas , Mexico inn 1968. They surfed Mexico and Costa Rica for years thereafter.

Robert and his surf team of “legends”did many annual promotions at Pat Magee’s Surf shop.

Pat’s 30th.anniversaryin 1999 featured “Surfin Art”. Ahuge exhibit of classic surf art, classic boards and “woodies”. The surf music Legends “The Ventures” played a free concert outside the shop in Port A.

Pat Magee’s Surf Shop became the premiere surf shop and surf museum with incredible memorabilia suchb as posters, Business cards, photos, classic surfboards, depicting surfing form its Hawaiian roots to the Souther California 60’s boom to the Texas surf craze starting in 1962.

Pat and Mary Lynn Magee retired and closed the store in 2005. They split their time between Punta Mita, Mexico, Port Aransas, and Goliad,Texas.

In 2005 Brad Lomax and Pat Magee co-founded the Texas Surf Museum in downtown Corpus Christi, Texas and it continues to be a huge attraction in the city to this date. One of the most popular exhibits was the tribute to the 50th anniversary of Bruce Brown’s surf movie “Endless Summer”. Bruce Brown, Robert august, Mike Hynson, Robert “Wingnut” Weaver and Paul Straugh were all together for this epic event.
